Building Bright Futures for Women & Children
To unlock the potential which lies within every woman and child, the Minera group responsibly runs the Sofia Educational and Charitable Trust in the Bellary region. These are some of the facilities provided:
- School is built and run by Minera.
- Free education is offered, and the costs of fees, books, & uniforms are covered.
- School catering offered to about 300+ students.
- Tailoring institute for women to develop careers.
Our Focus Areas
Education stands as the bedrock of development, and our unwavering commitment revolves around nurturing young minds within our community. We provide invaluable support to nearby government schools, addressing their specific needs. Furthermore, we bear the complete education expenses of underprivileged children, ensuring their access to a quality education. To combat the shortage of educators, we sponsor the salaries of teachers and support staff in local government higher primary schools in neighboring villages. In our pursuit of creating an enriched learning environment, we furnish schools with essential amenities, including furniture and computers. Our dedication to literacy extends to distributing books to orphaned children and those affected by AIDS, complemented by the provision of school bags, notebooks, and sports equipment. Notably, in collaboration with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, we proudly supply midday meals to nourish the bodies and minds of 400 students, reinforcing our commitment to their holistic well-being.
Our commitment to the well-being of our community is reflected in our organization's proactive approach to preventive healthcare, including the regular organization of medical health checkup camps, blood donation drives, and free eye checkup camps. We further emphasize physical well-being by providing free medicines, vehicles, and covering the expenses of medical operations for villagers. Our dedication extends to offering ambulance services to neighboring villages, conducting health camps to combat diseases like malaria, and implementing essential health measures such as blood testing, smear collection, treatment, and fogging. Additionally, we actively engage in blood testing and AIDS awareness initiatives for both our employees and the residents of the surrounding areas, recognizing the importance of addressing these health challenges. To support children affected by AIDS and those with AIDS-affected parents, we extend financial aid to meet their specific needs.
Our commitment to infrastructure and holistic community development is geared towards nurturing a resilient and thriving neighborhood. A testament to our dedication to connectivity and accessibility, we've taken on the construction of robust cement concrete roads linking villages. In line with our pledge to agricultural progress, we extend financial support of Rs 5000 per acre for wetlands and Rs 4000 per acre for dry lands in collaboration with neighboring enterprises. Embracing the local community, we integrate tractors and vehicles from nearby villages into our factory operations. Remarkably, our local-centric approach has resulted in a substantial 97% of our workforce originating from the surrounding villages.
Our active participation in cultural events like Ambedikar Jayanthi, Vigraha Pratisthapana, and Annadana for Ayyappa Deities underscores our unwavering commitment to local traditions. Additionally, our contributions to community infrastructure, including the construction of a community hall and two temples in a nearby village, stand as tangible symbols of our dedication to comprehensive community growth.
